End of month 1! Tactical Squad Ankaran ready to deploy

So children, we come to it now, the end of month 1! My first troops choice, a Legion Tactical Squad, designated as Tactical squad Ankaran, Third Claw of the 7th Company, VIII Legio Astartes. They say a picture paints a thousand words, so i've got enough pictures for a short novel...

I think ive got the colour scheme nailed down now. I particularly enjoyed painting the lightning bolts on the armour plates. The astute among you might notice that the Legion symbol has not yet been added, but that shoulder pad is currently just blu-tacked in place for appearance until Forge World inevitably release some awesome sculpted shoulder pads. The skin on the sergeants face isn't as smooth as i would have liked, but again, i'll put it down to experience and this will improve over time.

And, just to finish off this post, a WIP taste of February's selection, my HQ choice, a Legion Praetor.

The galaxy is the Emperor's, and anyone or anything who challenges tht claim is an enemy who must be destroyed

My first Imperial fist is nearly finished all that is left to do is wait for the weather to clear up so i can purity seal it and then add the flock to the base.

Third claw, almost complete!

As we draw into the final few days of month one, i've *almost* finished my Tactical Squad and Rhino. So without further ado, heres some lovely pictures (I still havent got the hang of taking decent pictures yet, especially of models which are predominantly a dark colour). Just a few details and a bit of weathering to go!

Over the next few days i will be adding weathering to the bases and legs using this:

On thursday night i will be able to reveal the finished products!

Sons of Horus - First test marine

Having received my SoH shoulder pads and the bolt pistols I have been able to crack on with the painting. I decided to paint one test model before going at the whole squad.

The first thing I did was mix up enough of the base colour to make 2 pots worth. This should see me through the whole army hopefully but otherwise I am pretty confident I can recreate it easily enough having noted down rough measurements.

Here is the progress on the tac marine, as always feedback is welcomed:

Basecoat and wash 1
Wash 2
Reapplication of base layer
Grime, battle damage and a small amount of blood staining added to face plate and chest plate

More to come by the end of the week...

To admit defeat is to blaspheme against the Emperor

Update 2 of my Imperial Fists.

I decided to keep it a mustardy yellow colour.

Following on from my last update I started to high light the yellow by adding Ushabti Bone to Averland Sunset until it almost became a 1-1 mix.

I once again used Seraphim Sepia but as a very thin wash.

The final stage of the yellow i gave it a glaze wash of Lamenters Yellow all thats now left is the weathering and damage which will be done at the end.

I then painted all the areas that are not yellow back to black being careful to not go over the yellow.

I then decided to paint the gold which was done by giving it a base coat of Rhinox Hide and Ghenna's Gold 1-1 which was then given a wash of Rhinox hide and Nuln Oil 1-1.

From the ashes comes the salamanders.

just a update on how i'm going to paint my fellow brothers of the salamanders legion.

How i did the green was very simple i wanted a dirty armor look about them, just to show they were assembled of the production line.

Applied Waaagh Green, then washed badah black, so the wash will give it a dirty look and also shade the model too.

For the flames on the shoulder pad with the old fountain yellow, then after that mixed together 3:1 ratio to Mephiston, then on the tips put mephiston.

All i have to do is apply the snow, but going to wait till the other 4 chaps are done which should be by the end of next week touch wood.

So feel free to comment on these advice will always be greatly accepted.

In midnight clad...

Similar to Alex, i've spent a chunk of the weekend getting my colour scheme nailed down.

Dont seem to be able to get a decent picture that properly shows the tone of the blue, but image something halfway between these two pictures...

Still need a little bit of touching up, especially arround the lightning bolts, and possibly a bit more snow on the base. Just need to wait for more pots of Necron Abyss to arrive from Ebay and i can get the Rhino started too.

Sons of Horus - Colour Test

Hi all. Would like your opinions on this first colour mix. Hopefully the pictures capture it properly. I have added some Runefang to give it a metallic flec.

First attempt at weathering and blood splatter

I have taken the pics with flash on/off and with my painting lamp on/off to try and give an accurate idea of what it looks like. Hopefully its someting like it.

Sons of Horus - Legion Tactical Squad WIP

Ok all so here we have my first 10 marines. Its a WIP and I have now decided that I am going to use the Legion shoulder pads from FW so I have left the left pads off for now. I Think I will also add some top knots, chains and spikes to enhance the look and feel. Any comments, suggestions welcome :-)
